Professor of the University of Tocantins, where she leads the Research Group on Development and Environmental Performance. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Master’s degree in Agroecosystems, Ph.D. in Regional Development. Visiting researcher at the Institute of Management and Strategy, University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Beyond academia, she has provided consultation services to the Ministry of the Environment of Brazil and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture. She is a board member of the State Council for Water Resources in Brazil, contributing to initiatives for sustainability and viability. As an Ambassador of the Climate Solutions Simulator of MIT she actively advocates for a cyber-systemic vision to address global climate challenges. Board Member of Metaphorum and the American Society for Cybernetics. Juliana has been working on applications of the Viable System Model (VSM) for the diagnosis and design of complex adaptive systems. Her research and practice with the VSM have enabled her to introduce a powerful new approach to coping with the complex challenges in water governance in cooperation with water authorities.
